When Crown Publishing inked a deal with George W. Bush for his memoirs, the publisher knew it wasn’t getting Faulkner. But the book, at least, promises “gripping, never-before-heard detail” about the former president’s key decisions, offering to bring readers “aboard Air Force One on 9/11, in the hours after America’s most devastating attack since Pearl Harbor; at the head of the table in the Situation Room in the moments before launching the war in Iraq,” and other undisclosed and weighty locations. Crown also got a mash-up of worn-out anecdotes from previously published memoirs written by his subordinates, from which Bush lifts quotes word for word, passing them off as his own recollections.

George Bush Book ‘Decision Points’ Lifted From Advisers’ Books

…And the press, and other books…

Lying worked for him in office, so I guess maybe he thought why stop now.

Interesting/insightful review of Meghan McCain’s “Dirty Sexy Politics” — which is apparently a “YA memoir” aimed at a younger demographic.

To make her seem wise?

(Yes, saucer of milk for one over here.)

I find also that Mo Mowlam’s part in the Northern Ireland peace process has been rather overstated. So to put the record straight, it was all down to me. The talks had reached an impasse and I said to Gerry and David, “Look guys, we’re on a journey,” and they said, “Cool Tony, We’re with you.

Digested read: Tony Blair A Journey | Politics | The Guardian

My mole at Waterstones tells me that Tony Blair’s autobiography has been flying off the shelves since its release yesterday.

Because I have nothing good to say about Tony Blair, I recommend this digested read instead.

Former US president George W Bush is to join his old friend Tony Blair as one of Random House’s authors, with his memoir Decision Points acquired for a release in the UK this November.

Dubbed a “groundbreaking new brand of memoir” by the publisher, the book will explore Bush’s 14 “most critical and historic decisions”, including the war in Iraq and his response to hurricane Katrina, and will be published simultaneously in the US, UK and Canada in hardback, ebook and audio formats on 9 November.

No thanks.

I guess that’s what’s called good publicity?

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will write a “coming-of-age memoir” detailing her modest immigrant upbringing in New York to her appointment as the first Hispanic to serve on the nation’s highest court, said publisher Alfred A. Knopf on Monday.

Brown to write Downing Street Memoir… Sarah Brown, that is

“The wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown will tell readers “what it’s like to shop with Special Branch” and “cope with a bad hair day when Carla Bruni’s in town”, publishers Ebury said. Mrs Brown revealed the news to her million followers on micro-blogging site Twitter on Saturday: “Just agreed with my publisher Ebury to write a book - working title ‘Behind the Black Door’ - so chained to laptop from Monday morning.”

Not sure I’m dying to read this (shopping with special branch sounds interesting but bad hair days are a bit beneath such an accomplished woman, surely — don’t do that “I’m just a girl after all” schtick please, Sarah) but it’s certainly more appealing than Cherie Blair’s book… Will you be buying it?
